Success Stories
Thank You, Tinkerbell!

by Ras Mandangan

Ras Mandangan is a volunteer of CARA’s Laguna Pit Bull Rehabilitation Project. He worked closely with Tinkerbell and was instrumental in helping her come out of her shell to reveal the playful tyke that she really is. Ras is one of the few people that Tinkerbell trusts. Though it pains him to part with her, he takes comfort in the fact that she now has a place she can truly call home. He shares his thoughts below.

Out ¬†of everything about Tinkerbell’s story, what captivated me the most was the fact that she’s not even supposed to be alive. Being part of a dog fighting operation was a death sentence for her and the other pit bulls she was rescued with.

Tinker’s story is a story of hope. A story of the enduring power of human intervention. She showed us the worst and the best in humanity.

She taught us that there is no such thing as “rock bottom”. That sometimes we may be a victim of circumstance, but that doesn’t give us an excuse to give up on life. Because no matter how bad things get, there’s always a brighter tomorrow, if we just hold on long enough.

She has touched the lives of everyone around her; and now, as she begins the new chapter of her life I hope she continues to do the same.

This once shy little pit brought out the best in me. For that I am forever grateful.

Goodbye for now, sweetheart.
